Pinnacle Air (Delhi International) has launched services from Hisar following the opening of the first commercial airport in the northern Indian state of Haryana.
According to The Pioneer, flights started on August 15 and operate to Delhi International and Chandigarh, each of them 6x weekly using a Cessna (single turboprop) 208B Grand Caravan. The traffic rights were awarded to Pinnacle Air under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS or UDAN).
The investment in the new airport amounted to INR123.6 million (USD1.8 million). Haryana, one of India's smallest states located adjacent to the Delhi Capital Territory, has thus far lacked a commercial airport.
Further scheduled services out of Hisar are expected to commence on October 15, State Civil Aviation Minister Rao Narbir Singh said. The state government plans to expand the airport to allow narrowbody jet services in the coming 18 months. The government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) regarding the expansion of the airport, although it is not clear whether and when the airline will launch services out of Hisar.
