WestJet (WS, Calgary) has placed a firm order for sixty B737-10s and seven B787-9s from Boeing with additional options for 25 and four units of types, respectively. The deal will see the airline double its widebody fleet.

"With the addition of these aircraft, WestJet has the largest order book of any airline in Canada and will double our fleet of [B787] Dreamliners, underpinning our growth plans and our commitment to affordable travel options for Canadians from coast to coast and exciting career paths for our people," chief executive officer Alexis von Hoensbroech said.

The deliveries are scheduled to continue until 2034, although the airline did not reveal the exact timeline. It did not respond to ch-aviation's request for comment.

WestJet currently operates fifty-five B737-8s and has another nine on firm order from Boeing. It also has an existing firm order for forty-seven B737-10s, with deliveries yet to commence as the variant is not yet certified. Including the new deal, the Canadian airline will increase its outstanding order book to 116 new-generation narrowbodies. ch-aviation data shows the airline also plans to take at least five B737-8s on lease from CDB Aviation and Avolon.

The B737 MAX will replace the carrier's legacy fleet of thirty-eight B737-700s and fifty-five B737-800s. It also operates four B737-800(BCF)s.

In terms of its widebody fleet, WestJet currently operates seven B787-9s and has no outstanding orders.
