Avelo Airlines (XP, Burbank) will close its base at Burbank as it grapples with calls to boycott it over its decision to operate deportation flights for the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The carrier will reduce its presence at the airport to one aircraft until December 2, and then close the base, which currently serves eight routes to Arcata/Eureka, Eugene, Kalispell International, Medford, Pasco, Redmond, Salem, OR, and Santa Rosa, CA, according to ch-aviation schedules data.

"We believe the continuation service from [Burbank] in the current operating environment will not deliver adequate financial returns in a highly competitive backdrop," the company said in a statement to the news agency. It denied that protests over its DHS contract had any effect on the decision to close the base. Last week, the city of Eureka, CA, announced it would stop using Avelo flights for official business due to the deportation flights. The company has faced similar outrage from other city councils across the United States.
