Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) will have to adjust its consumer policies in Austria after the country's Supreme Court of Justice ruled that 111 of its consumer clauses are illegal, including a EUR40 euro (USD42) fee for airport check-in and a 12-month time limit for vouchers.
This comes after Austria's Chamber of Labour (Arbeiterkammer) won its case against the airline in the court, which on February 17 also ruled that the Hungarian budget carrier's practice of refunding ticket costs in "WIZZ" credits without the written consent of passengers was unlawful.
Following the ruling, all airport check-in fees paid since 2018 will be refunded and expired "WIZZ" vouchers will be replaced with new voucher codes that are valid for five years from the date of reissue.
The policy changes affect all passengers resident in Austria and are valid at least until December 31, 2027.
Asked for comment, Wizz Air said it acknowledged and accepted the court ruling and would act accordingly.
