The Guernsey Transport Licensing Authority (GTLA) has granted Waves (Guernsey) an air transport licence thereby allowing the start-up to resume the sales of individual tickets on its flights.

Waves was forced to adopt a full-charter model in January after Blue Islands (SI, Jersey) successfully argued that the start-up was, in reality, a scheduled operator and should, therefore, undergo full certification procedures. Waves subsequently applied for an air transport licence culminating in this week's announcement that the GTLA had now issued it route licences for service between Guernsey and Jersey and Guernsey and Alderney.

"The fact that they have granted us the licence is proof our business is a perfect fit for the inter-island air travel market. We have always maintained that we are here to fill a gap in that market and not compete with existing carriers," Nick Magliocchetti, chief executive of Waves, said. "We offer a niche service that is designed to attract customers who may have chosen not to fly because of inconvenient schedules or pricing structures."

Waves currently operates a single Cessna (single turboprop) 208B Grand Caravan, 2-CREW (msn 208B2148). It has yet to specify its proposed service timetable.
