Sunair Aviation (Tauranga) has suspended operations for a period of at least ten days following a directive from the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAANZ).
According to the New Zealand Herald, in the order the CAANZ expressed "serious concerns" about the airline's safety oversight adding that it "poses an imminent and unacceptable risk to public safety".
The 3rd Level New Zealand blog quotes Sunair co-owner Bev Power as saying the carrier is working closely with the CAANZ to satisfy their concerns and expects to be back in the air 'shortly'.
Sunair runs scheduled air-taxi flights between the New Zealand airports of Hamilton, NZ, Tauranga, Rotorua, Whakatane, Gisborne, Whitianga, Great Barrier Island, Ardmore, NZ, and North Shore using Cessna (single piston) 172s and Piper (twin piston) PA-23 Aztecs.
