Ukraine International Airlines (PS, Kyiv Boryspil) and other Ukrainian operators will be able to operate direct flights to the United States after the US Federal Aviation Administration upgraded Ukraine’s aviation safety rating to Category 1 last week. The FAA said that based on the results of a July FAA review of Ukraine’s civil aviation authority, the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine, the country's safety standards had now conformed to international norms as laid down by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Following a previous visit and inspection in 2005, the FAA had categorized the country as Category 2 preventing carriers other than now defunct Aerosvit Airlines (Kyiv Boryspil) from launching routes to the United States and Aerosvit from increasing frequencies or adding new destinations.
