Spirit Airlines (NK, Fort Lauderdale International) has announced its decision to discontinue service at Albuquerque International, Birmingham, AL, Boise, Chattanooga Lovell, Columbia, SC, Oakland International, Portland International, Sacramento International, Salt Lake City, San Diego International, and San José, US effective from the week of October 2, 2025.

The decision was made “as part of our efforts to transform our business and position Spirit for long-term success,” the company told ch-aviation in a statement. The ultra-low-cost carrier, currently under its second Chapter 11 bankruptcy process in less than a year, is to focus instead on its strongest-performing markets.

Furthermore, Spirit will no longer launch services at Macon Regional, which had been due to start on October 16.

ch-aviation schedule data shows that the lost markets are mostly connected with Las Vegas Harry Reid, Fort Lauderdale International, New York Newark, Orlando International, Detroit Metropolitan, and Los Angeles International. Las Vegas will see the biggest number of dropped routes, at eight (from the list of markets the carrier is exiting, only Birmingham, Chattanooga, and Columbia were not connected with this city).

Spirit Airlines filed for Chapter 11 on August 29, as it looks to renegotiate lease terms and expects to reduce its fleet, currently comprising 214 aircraft: sixty-two A320-200s, ninety-one A320-200Ns, twenty-nine A321-200s, and thirty-two A321-200NXs.
