The new board of Air Botswana (BP, Gaborone) has extended the "administrative leave" of its general manager, Lulu Rasebotsa, for another 30 working days amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of mismanagement and operational inefficiencies at the airline, ch-aviation has learned.

Rasebotsa has been under a 30-day suspension since June 30, 2025, but as of early August 2025, indications were that the initial suspension period had expired without a clear resolution.

According to the Botswana Guardian newspaper, the new board appointed on June 27 is facing challenges in conducting its investigation. Internal obstacles, including restricted access to information due to company policies requiring legal vetting and management authorisation, reportedly have impeded the board’s ability to gather necessary evidence. Some staff have reportedly not cooperated fully, possibly because they were involved in past decisions or advised Rasebotsa directly.

A spokeswoman for Air Botswana confirmed that the "general manager’s administrative leave had been extended". Rasebotsa declined to comment.

Her suspension followed the June 27 announcement of the new board in a shake-up that forms part of a broader turnaround strategy. The new board is led by former Air Serbia and euroAtlantic Airways CEO Dane Kondić. His appointment at Air Botswana has been controversial in light of his dual role as chairman of the management committee of regional rival LAM - Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (TM, Maputo).
