Wizz Air Abu Dhabi (5W, Abu Dhabi International) will end operations on September 1, 2025, its parent company confirmed. Wizz Air Holdings announced that it will cease Wizz Air Abu Dhabi operations out of Abu Dhabi International due to engine reliability issues in a hot and harsh environment, geopolitical volatility, and regulatory hurdles. The company aims to reinforce its presence in Europe, with particular focus on the central and eastern parts of the continent.

"Supply chain constraints, geopolitical instability, and limited market access have made it increasingly difficult to sustain our original ambitions. While this was a difficult decision, it is the right one given the circumstances," Wizz Air's chief executive József Váradi said.

A spokesperson for Wizz Air told ch-aviation that the company is not able to comment further on the decision.

The news about the termination of the Abu Dhabi operations comes a week after the airline decided to trim one-third of its UAE network.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company and Wizz Air Holdings. The company obtained its air operator's certificate (AOC) from the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority in October 2020 and launched operations in January 2021.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi's fleet comprises eight A321-200s and four A321-200NX. The airline currently operates 25 routes out of Abu Dhabi.

Wizz Air's other AOCs will operate to the UAE capital during the 2025-26 IATA winter season. Wizz Air Malta plans to serve the Vienna-Abu Dhabi route, while Wizz Air will operate flights from Budapest, Katowice Pyrzowice, and Kraków John Paul II International, ch-aviation data shows.
