Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) will temporarily suspend its services to Kazakhstan during the 2025/26 winter season due to the fleet shortages. The German flag carrier told ch-aviation that the routes from Frankfurt International to Astana Nursultan Nazarbayev and Almaty International will be discontinued between October 26, 2025, and March 29, 2026.

"Like many airlines worldwide, Lufthansa is affected by aircraft delivery delays and supply chain disruptions, slowing down fleet renewal and growth - but also impacting the operational stability of its current fleet," the airline noted.

However, Lufthansa did not confirm whether it plans to resume the Kazakh services during the 2026 summer season, as the company has yet to finalise next year's schedule. Lufthansa currently operates 5x weekly to Kazakhstan, including two services routing Frankfurt-Almaty-Astana-Frankfurt, two routing Frankfurt-Astana-Almaty-Frankfurt, and a weekly service only to Astana. The flights to the Central Asian country are currently operated with A330-300s and A340-300s.

The carrier noted that making a reliable flight schedule for the winter season remains its priority. It has already introduced measures to execute the current summer schedule, such as extending transfer times and securing backup aircraft.

The company has been facing delays in the delivery of factory-new aircraft, particularly widebodies. It was recently forced to defer the retirement of its A340-600s from 2025 to 2026 as it awaits new B787-9s.

According to ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Aircraft Data, Lufthansa's widebody fleet comprises seven A330-300s, seventeen A340-300s, fifteen A340-600s, thirty A350-900s, eight A380-800s, eight B747-400s, nineteen B747-8s, and five B787-9s.
