The United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has exempted Syrianair (RB, Damascus) and 27 other entities and individuals from sanctions, authorising all transactions with those companies and persons, as well as all companies in which they hold majority stakes.

The general licence issued on May 23, 2025, confirms an earlier announcement by US President Donald Trump promising a relaxation of sanctions on Syria. While it authorises all transactions with the named entities and persons as an exemption, the sanctions remain in place and have not been lifted entirely.

The state-owned airline said in a statement that the exemption will allow it to enter a period of rapid growth and will return Syrian air traffic to "normalcy". The European Union lifted sanctions on Syrianair in February.

The ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Aircraft Data module shows that Syrianair currently operates only two A320-200s but has a further six units of the type, as well as two A340-300s, in storage.
