Virtual carrier Västflyg (Trollhättan) aims to launch the route Stockholm Bromma-Visby before the summer, the company said in a press release, adding that it is looking into around 50 weekly departures. Earlier, it announced a June start to Bromma-Växjö flights, with 24 weekly departures.
The announcement comes just months after Västflyg vowed to continue operating from Bromma despite city council plans to close the more central airport in the Swedish capital by 2038. Västflyg is the only commercial operator serving Stockholm Bromma. It currently has a single route from Trollhättan to the airport, operated by NyxAir (OJ, Tallinn Lennart Meri).
Västflyg’s online booking engine shows that the Växjö route will launch on June 2, whereas there are no bookable flights on the Visby route yet.
“The fact that Västflyg is now adding another flight route to Bromma Stockholm Airport, and that all flights are operated with the maximum possible blend of biofuel, is a clear signal about the importance of maintaining Bromma as the gateway to Stockholm from the southern parts of the country,” Västflyg CEO Anna Petre said on the occasion of the Växjö route announcement.
Bromma-Visby is being supported by a number of Gotland investors such as Gotlandsbolaget, Tofta Intressenter, ICA Maxi Visby, SweProd AB, Ulixxes AB, and entrepreneur Sakarias Ronquist, Västflyg revealed.
According to photographs on Västflyg’s website showing liveries with the virtual carrier’s logo and ADS-B data, two NyxAir Saab 340B aircraft are operating on behalf of Västflyg: ES-NSC (msn 340B-248), which operates the current route, and ES-NSK (msn 340B-169), which has been in maintenance since the end of March. All of the virtual carrier's flights have operated under NyxAir's 'OJ' code.
