Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) has completed the operational aspects of its merger with subsidiary Thai Smile. In a May 8, 2025, Stock Exchange of Thailand filing, Thai Airways said that all flight operations and services from Thai Smile had transferred to its parent entity. Thai Airways owns 99.99% of Thai Smile's shares.

The latest filing also notes that a May 8 meeting of the administrators of Thai Airways' restructuring plan had resolved to proceed with legally dissolving Thai Smile.

Thai Airways resolved to merge its low-cost offshoot in 2023 and has steadily worked towards doing so ever since. It said that combining the two carriers would provide greater operational and financial efficiencies.

Later in 2023, the first of Thai Smile's twenty A320-200s began transferring across to Thai Airways. By early 2024, Thai Smile had ceased day-to-day operations.

Those twenty A320-200s now operate for Thai Airways on many of the routes formerly hived off to Thai Smile. Earlier this year, Thailand's Civil Aviation Board approved the permanent closure of Thai Smile and sent the matter up the regulatory food chain to the transport minister for the final sign off.
