CareFlight has announced it will launch a permanent air ambulance base at Newcastle Williamtown airport with two aircraft, one King Air B200 turboprop and one Beechjet 400XT. The aircraft will operate both under contract with NSW Health and CareFlight’s own national and international medevac services.
"Newcastle is an ideal geographic base for patient transport services for residents in northern and north-western New South Wales, as well as for CareFlight’s Air Ambulance services in the Pacific region," chief executive Mick Frewen said.
The Beechjet 400XT, VH-OVS (msn RK-239), has been based at Newcastle since October 2024, until now on a temporary basis.
CareFlight's fixed-wing fleet comprises the single Beechjet, two G150s (both based out of Darwin), and eight King Air B200s.
Newcastle Williamtown also hosts an air ambulance base of Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
