SalamAir (OV, Muscat) will postpone the introduction of its new E195-E2s due to problems with Pratt & Whitney PW1900G engines. Deliveries of the new aircraft were initially planned for the end of 2023 but will be deferred to 2026 or 2027.
Embraer told the Brazilian aviation news site Airway in a statement that the manufacturer had recommended that SalamAir not take delivery of the E2s yet as Pratt & Whitney is working on an upgrade for the GTF powerplant. The new modifications to the engines are expected to make them more resilient to the harsh conditions in the Middle East, primarily dust ingestion.
ch-aviation reached out to SalamAir and Embraer for comment but did not receive an answer by the time this article was published.
The Muscat-based airline signed a firm order with Embraer for six E195-E2s in June 2022. The new regional jets are expected to be equipped with 135 seats in a dual-class configuration. SalamAir has options for six more aircraft.
The low-cost carrier recently issued a call for ten A320s.
According to the ch-aviation fleets module, SalamAir currently operates 14 aircraft, including six A320-200Ns, five A321-200Ns, and two A321-200NX(LR)s, as well as one A321-200(P2F), which has been parked since July 2024.
