Jeju Air (7C, Jeju) will suspend its B737 freighter flights between February 2 and March 29, 2025, the Yonhap News Agency reported citing sources from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The suspensions follow the crash of a passenger-configured B737-800 at Muan on December 29, 2024.
According to ch-aviation fleets data, Jeju Air operates two B737-800(BCF)s. These aircraft regularly fly between Seoul Incheon, China, and Viet Nam. Jeju Air later confirmed the report, saying it was pausing freighter flights to focus on "stabilising passenger operations."
Jeju Air has reduced its number of passenger flights by approximately 1,900 in the first quarter of this year. This comes as the carrier grapples with the operational and financial fallout from a crash that claimed 179 lives.
During its emergency landing at Muan, the B737-800 crashed into a concrete barrier at the end of the runway. Among changes to be made in the wake of the crash, these types of barriers will be removed at seven South Korean airports and replaced by breakable structures. The barriers protected navigation equipment, including localiser antennas.
