Solomons - Solomon Airlines (IE, Honiara) will begin operating on the Auckland International-Brisbane International city pair from February 21, 2025. The airline will use an A320-200 to operate the weekly roundtrip.
“While we expect many to use the flight for point-to-point travel between Auckland and Brisbane, the service also connects with our Brisbane to Munda and Honiara flights, allowing same-day travel from New Zealand via Brisbane to the Solomon Islands," said Solomons Commercial Manager John Wopereis. "This route is part of our expanded international schedule designed to enhance regional connectivity and improve operational efficiency."
The Auckland-Brisbane route is already serviced by Qantas, Jetstar Airways, Air New Zealand, and China Airlines. According to ch-aviation capacities data, there are 49 weekly roundtrips on the city pair, with Air New Zealand operating 20 of those, Qantas operating 14, Jetstar ten, and China Airlines five.
In addition to Auckland, Solomon Airlines also flies to Honiara, Port Vila, and Espiritu Santo direct from Brisbane. Wopereis says the Auckland service will target the labour market, particularly Solomon Islanders who work in Australia and New Zealand, the VFR market, and any day-to-day business and leisure traffic it can scoop up.
While primarily a domestic operator, Solomon Airlines also flies to Nadi, Brisbane, Auckland, Espiritu Santo, and Port Vila. Its fleet of seven aircraft include two A320-200s, four DHC-6-300s, and one DHC-8-100.
