Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong International) is planning another widebody aircraft order, chief operations and service delivery officer Alex McGowan told Bloomberg this week. He said the order would be “the final component” in a series of recent orders and that aircraft sizes ranging between B787-8s and B777-9s are under consideration, with both major manufacturers Airbus and Boeing in the running.

“The end of the decade is not far away. We have got to place our orders now," McGowan said.

Recently, Cathay Group, owner of Cathay Pacific, said it would invest more than HKD100 billion Hong Kong dollars (USD12.8 billion) over the next seven years in various upgrades, including fleet updates.

The group currently has over 100 aircraft on order and options for another 100. These include including thirty A330-900Ns, sixteen A321-200NX, twenty-one B777-9s, and six A350Fs going to Cathay Pacific. In addition, Cathay Group's low-cost subsidiary HK Express (UO, Hong Kong International) is expecting eight A320-200N and fifteen A321-200NX types.
