HiSky Europe (H4, Iasi) has confirmed plans to launch its maiden transatlantic service, Bucharest Henri Coanda-New York JFK, on June 7, 2024.
The Romanian airline plans to operate the route 4x weekly using its recently delivered A330-200, its first and so far only widebody aircraft. YR-KID (msn 1138) entered revenue service on December 22, 2023, flying a charter service from Bucharest to Krabi in Thailand.
HiSky Europe will be the first airline to operate transatlantic scheduled flights from Romania since the termination of TAROM's flights to the US in 2003. The airline has previously evaluated options to serve the US market with its two A321-200NX(LR)s, although such services would be at the limit of the type's published range. HiSky Europe also operates four A320-200s, while Moldovan sister carrier HiSky (H7, Chisinau International) operates a single A319-100.
Chief Executive Iulian Scorpan told ch-aviation the focus was now on using the A330 for transatlantic services.
