Volotea (V7, Barcelona El Prat) has reaffirmed its commitment to Corsica and plans to open a base there in the next two years.
"The opening of a new base in Corsica would be a major step in the history of Volotea, and we are convinced that this investment will play a key role in the dynamism and the economic growth of the region," Chief Executive Carlos Muñoz said.
Without disclosing any specific plans, the Spanish LCC pledged to increase its offering from the French territorial collectivity in 2024. The ch-aviation capacities module shows that it currently serves all four Corsican airports: Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi, and Figari, accounting for 18.5% of all scheduled weekly departure seats and 22.2% of domestic seats. It trails behind Air Corsica (which has bases at all four airports) and Air France (which does not have a Corsican base).
With a fleet of twenty A319-100s and twenty-one A320-200s, Volotea is strongly focused on serving secondary cities in the Mediterranean. Almost 95% of its weekly scheduled departure capacity is concentrated in just four countries: Italy, France, Spain, and Greece.
