Mountain Air Cargo (MTN, Kinston) became the fourth operator of the ATR72-600F globally and third in the United States when it inducted N706FE (msn 1739) into revenue service on behalf of FedEx Express on March 6, 2023.
The brand new aircraft was delivered directly from the manufacturer to FedEx in late 2022. It began proving flights for Mountain Air Cargo on February 21, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. Having entered revenue service on March 6, the freighter is now being used on the Raleigh/Durham-New Bern feeder route exclusively.
FedEx is currently the only active customer for the ATR72-600F production freighter. However, the logistics integrator does not operate any aircraft of the type via its in-house FedEx Express airline. Instead, it has so far placed six units with ASL Airlines Ireland and two each with Empire Airlines and Gulf & Caribbean Cargo, the ch-aviation fleets module shows.
The induction of the ATR72-600F is the second type debut for Mountain Air Cargo in a matter of weeks. The airline became the global launch operator of the Cessna 408F, also on behalf of FedEx, on January 3.
